Streetalk: What significance does the 4th of July hold for you?

Think free

I think of freedom and our flag and what that means to us. We’re very fortunate to live in this country. My great grandfather worked for Bidwell. He was General Grant’s bodyguard in the Civil war and after that he came here, worked for Bidwell and was part of this town. He fought for the freedom of Black people and so I think of freedom when I think of the 4th.

This year doesn’t mean anything to me because I’m not with my son, he’s with his dad. I want to celebrate with both of my kids. I think of family, and I want us all to be together.

It holds the hope of freedom, not just for humans but for all living things.

Cody Pieri

Spending time with family, and fireworks (that are safe!). Eating all the food
and being with family.

On one hand its a special holiday that celebrates freedom but these days…people are talking about boycotting the 4th and I understand where they’re coming from! We might get to the point where only part of the country wants to celebrate, it might not represent the same feelings that it used to.
