Local station KZFR has booked a reggae night x3! Rik Jam (pictured) arrives in Chico from Kingston carrying his unique sound with uplifting lyrics and his dedication to positivity and resilience. Reggae singjay Dalwayne’s lyrics often address societal issues, cultural themes and personal experiences from growing up in Jamaica. And, these two island talents are joined by Chico’s own reggae and roots rock band, Triple Tree. It’s dog day at Chico’s favorite canine park. Chico Area Recreation District (CARD) is sponsoring this annual, free event for humans and their four-legged barking companions. Test your pup’s skills in the K-9 obstacle course, or be a star in costume for the Mutt Strut. Your hosts, the Malteazers with Willow Wallflower and Miss Dee, promise a show you’ve never seen, or heard, before. As they tell it, a show that features songs “we’d love to perform but are unconventional, don’t fit a theme, songs you never thought you’d hear at a burlesque or drag show…”. Sunday afternoon Jam Sessions are returning to the Box, with no cover. This all-ages music event runs until 8:00pm. Up first, from Eureka is the Americana band The Trouble Hooks. Then make way for the big sound of favorite local bluesman, Big Mo (pictured). You know he fuses blues, Southern rock, funk, and country. Expect some creative, musical improv at these jam sessions. Darlingside with Frail Talk

The music of Boston-based Darlingside (pictured) seamlessly blends indie folk, classical and pop elements. They often cluster around a single mic with guitar, banjo, mandolin, violin or cello to deliver a sound that some reviewers compare to Simon & Garfunkel or Crosby, Stills & Nash. Expect to hear cuts that mine new territory in Everything Is Alive, Darlingside’s fourth LP. Also at this show is indie-folk and soft pop band Frail Talk, a trio from northern Colorado. Tickets here.
