Book in Common Lecture with Héctor Tobar

As a recurring event, the Book in Common is a shared, community read designed to promote discussion and understanding of important issues facing the broader community. This year’s selection is Our Migrant Souls: A Meditation on Race and the Meanings and Myths of ‘Latino’ by Héctor Tobar. Tobar’s publisher states that he “delivers a definitive and personal exploration of what it means to be Latino in the United States right now”. Third World Reggae Tour

Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, Third World’s commercial success exploded when touring as the opening act for Bob Marley and the Wailers in the 1970s. Now touring with special guest Iqulah, these legendary reggae ambassadors are wrapping up their California stops before heading east. Woofstock Festival 2025

This all-day barkfest is open to all humans and well-behaved dogs on leashes. Sponsored by Butte Humane Society, this annual fundraising event includes live music, food, local beer and other beverages, shopping at the vendor marketplace, and participating in family and dog-friendly activities. The tentative musical line up is: Max Minardi, Turn Signal, Van Hagar and Whiskey River Band. Tickets: $30 adult, general admission. The Mistons, The Americas, Viking Skate Country
and Jrdn & The Switchblades

Believe this crew when they describe themselves as noisemakers. It will start with local boys Viking Skate Country and the elusive duo The Americas getting the room pulsating. Then Portland’s The Mistons (shown here) deliver their garage rock/punk and Baltimore’s Jrdn & The Switchblades will crank it up with their pop-punk sound. Good Medicine: An Evening of Live Native Stand-Up

Hosted and produced by comedian Jackie Keliiaa, this laugh-fest will include a rotating cast of comics from several Tribal Nations in America. You’ve seen them on Netflix, Comedy Central, Team Coco, Amazon Prime’s “First Nations Comedy Experience,” and more. “We believe that humor has the power to heal and build bridges of understanding across communities. And did I mention our shows are also really funny?,” Keliiaa exclaims. Tickets: General $35–45; Youth age 17 and under $17; Chico State Students $17.
