Goodforthesoul Music Festival
Friday, April 12, 5-11pm
Idea Fab Labs
603 Orange St.
If you’re a local music fan who says to oneself, “Where are the new local bands at? I wanna hear some new original music!” Tonight (April 12) is your lucky night. The Goodforthesoul Music Festival going down at the IFL compound is an all-ages shindig featuring 16 young, mostly brand-spanking-new, local artists. The brainchild behind the production is Chico musician Derrien Evans. As it says in his Spotify bio: “I’m not a rapper; I’m an artist,” and the Carson native (who does rap, and sing) is in Chico for college. While here, he’s gotten busy organizing regular mini-music festivals under the Goodforthesoul banner. Tonight’s shindig features everyone from Derrien to new local indie band People at the Grocery Store. All for only 5 bucks!

Kite Day
Sunday, April 14, noon-3pm
Community Park
1900 Dr. MLK Jr. Parkway
Spring has kind of been arriving like a lion, with rainstorms returning every other week or so. That’s probably good news for Kite Day. As long as its not raining during the event (and there’s a chance this year), the movement of storms brings winds that keep the hundreds of brightly colored kites flying above the large expanse of green fields in Community Park. Bring the kids Sunday, April 14, noon-3pm, and enjoy a trackless train ride, live music, food court, games and bounce houses … and bring your kite!
