Grateful Shred

Thur Jan. 29, 7:00pm; Doors open 6:00pm
Sierra Nevada Big Room
1075 E. 20th St.
The six-piece rock outfit Grateful Shred captures a spirit familiar in Chico’s music scene—an indie garage band vibe with a style that pays tribute to its influences (Grateful Dead and The Jerry Garcia Band) without imitation. The band found success when an impromptu YouTube video, “Busted at the Bowl,” went viral. Emerging from their Los Angeles roots, they recorded their first full-length studio album, Might as Well, in June 2025 under their own label, Liberty Hair Farm Records. Their upcoming show at the Big Room is an all-ages event. Tickets online may still be available. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

The White Chip

Thur Jan. 29–Sun Feb. 8; Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays at 7:30pm; Sundays at 2:00pm
Theatre on the Ridge
3735 Neal Road, Paradise
Playwright Sean Daniels has crafted a script based on his own, true-life experience. This dark comedy centers around Steven, a theater professional who’s successful at everything except managing his addiction to alcohol. The audience follows his unexpected, often humorous, and deeply human journey to sobriety. The title refers to the “white chip” issued in Alcoholics Anonymous to signify a renewed commitment to sobriety after a relapse. The play debuted Off-Broadway in 2019, and continues in regional theaters. This Paradise production is directed by Jerry Miller. Tickets online or at the door, $18. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Guitarist Adam Moezinia has led the group since 2017, performing at venues across the country, including New York City’s Lincoln Center Plaza. Grounded in classic jazz traditions, the trio also weaves in influences from the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, and Appalachia. In 2021, the group released its debut album, Folk Element Trio to critical acclaim. Tickets online or at the door, $25, for this all-ages event. Check the CN&R Calendar for more information.
