The Grammy Award-winning, alt-rock band Switchfoot was born on a California surfboard. As lead singer/songwriter and co-founder, Jon Foreman (pictured here) helped create numerous albums, singles and music videos including platinum status. He’s dropping in at the Big Room to share tracks from his new album In Bloom, and more. Opening the show is recording artist Tyson Motsenbocker. Barefoot in the Park

Spirited Corie and serious Paul are newlyweds who must navigate love, compromise, and the chaos of their tiny New York City apartment. This Tony Award-winning play is set in 1960s and includes a cast of colorful neighbors and relatives who add challenges to the young couple’s lives. Inspired by playwright Neil Simon’s own early married life, it’s the OG rom-com. Tickets: $20. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Donald Beaman, Strange Pilgrim and Holy Matter

Royal Oakie Records presents the California Tour with Donald Beaman, Strange Pilgrim, and Holy Matter. Singer/songwriter Beaman recently released his fifth album, Fog On Mirror Glass, where you’ll hear his folk/rock/country influences. Hailing from Portland, Strange Pilgrim is an indie-rock band that blends timeless psych-rock influences with modern dream pop. Holy Matter is the pseudonym of Leanna Kaiser, a musician who merges psych-folk, hypnagogic pop, and experimental noise. All together, they should make for a good Friday at the Argus. Berner

Rapper Berner (aka Gilbert Anthony Milam, Jr.) is starting 4/20 early with a show in Chico. When this entrepreneur isn’t busy selling cannabis merch he’s performing, and most recently it’s with his Smoke Out Tour. As of 2024, he has released 22 solo albums, beginning with Dirty Sneakers… Plenty Ways to Get It, and 29 collaborative projects. With a huge fan base, some reviews praise him for “a charismatic stage presence”. Tickets available at Diamond W in downtown Chico, or online. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Sparta

The post-hardcore band Sparta (pictured here) hails from El Paso, Texas and is extending the tour showcasing their Porcelain album. Expect Jim Ward (vocals, guitar), Matt Miller (bass), and guest drummer to fill the room with electric energy. Also at this show is Chico’s psychedelic space punk band Sunny Acres and from Redding, indie rock band Belda Beast. Tickets: $28.52 at eventbrite.com, must be 21+.
