ARTober FEST

This annual celebration of visual arts, music and performances is centered in downtown Chico and includes many events throughout the city. From a cat-themed art exhibit at 1078 Gallery to Bonfire Storytelling in Laxson Auditorium and a weekend of Open Studios Art Tours, the month is packed with creativity everywhere. In downtown Chico you’ll find art exhibited in storefronts, guided tours, an art show and art sale in the Plaza with live music. S.R. Laws

Before he got his start as a singer/songwriter and performer of live rock, roll, rhythm and soul, as a kid Scott Ray Laws would spend hours digging through bags of thrown-out records. He drew inspiration from the storytelling prowess of John Hiatt, Rodney Crowell and more. Stars immersed himself in the music scene even more in Austin, Texas before returning to his roots in northern California. Check CN&R calendar for more info.

Young Frankenstein

Oct. 18 through Nov. 10, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm; Sundays at 2:00pm

The classic film is adapted as a stage play with a PG-13 twist. Watch as a young Dr. Frankenstein attempts to finish his grandfather’s creation with Igor and his lab assistant Igna. Like the movie, problems and funny scenarios occur. This musical will also feature songs such as The Transylvania Mania, He Vas My Boyfriend, and Puttin’ On The Ritz. The WilderWilds Open Art Exhibit

If you’re interested in checking out framed prints, creature dolls, skateboards, wood crafts and more this interactive art exhibit by WilderWilds, featuring Rosebud Wild and Chris Mountain should be on your list. The free event is presented by independent radio station Maker Radio 94.5 FM, one of the many creations of host Idea Fab Labs. This all-ages event will also have food and bar available. Take Off Chico! Airport Open House

Oct. 19, 2:00pm-7:00pm
Chico Regional Airport
150 Air Park Blvd.

Aviation fans rejoice! Explore the Chico Regional Airport to view aircraft displays and live demonstrations, play mini-games, eat food and even experience plane rides! Pilots are encouraged to fly-in and showcase their aircraft. After the Open House watch a drive-in movie hosted by Chico Air Museum. The event is free and open to everyone, children under 10-years-old must be accompanied by an adult.
