Fran Lebowitz

Famous American author Fran Lebowitz will be interviewed by Chico State English Prof. Rob Davidson. Known for her social commentary, Lebowitz has written two books and appeared in popular TV shows and movies such as Judge Janice in Law & Order. The audience will have a chance to ask Lebowitz questions in an open Q&A. Tickets are $55-$69; $17 for youth age 17 and under and Chico State students.

Watch a classic 1940s romance-war film that has been adapted as a stage play by Amber Miller and Joe Hillsee. Based on the movie of the same name, Rick’s nightclub is an escape from the corruption and oppression of Nazi-occupied Casablanca. Those nights are going to be upended once a special guest walks into the club. Check website for more info.

Chico Community Observatory Grand Re-Opening

This astronomical observatory located inside Upper Bidwell Park is opening to the public again under CARD’s operations. Dress up in a costume and take photos with your favorite Star Wars characters while enjoying some evening stargazing with high-powered telescopes. Check website for more info.

Mark Hummel’s Blues Survivors with Anson Funderburgh CD Release Party

Grammy nominee Hummel began playing harmonica in 1970 and has over 30 recordings since the 1980s. Accompanied by his band, Hummel is “considered one of the premier blues harmonica players of his generation,” according to his biography on his website. Funderburgh received his first guitar in elementary school together with a box of 45s of famous music pieces that helped him develop a stylistic direction as a blues guitarist. Rodrigo y Gabriela

The self-titled guitar duo got their start as teenagers in Mexico City. After struggling to break into the heavy metal scene there the two ventured to Dublin, Ireland where they would trade their electric guitars for acoustic ones. As street performers, they garnered recognition at private parties and pubs. Appealing to a wide audience, the Grammy winners’ work has been featured in TV’s Breaking Bad and the animated film Puss in Boots. Show opens with special guests the Afro-Cuban jazz group OKAN. Tickets are $57-$77, Meet and Greet VIP $202; $17 for youth age 17 and under and Chico State students.
