Yonder Mountain String Band on the Sierra Nevada stage is iconic Chico. Pairing the popular Colorado jamgrass innovators with our local pioneering craft brewery is such a promising party that they had to book it two nights in a row. Tonight, June 7, is the final show of the stand. Broken Compass Bluegrass open. Get out and get down with a Pale Ale and some of the most talented musicians on the scene. Tickets: $35.

Community theater

Starting June 7 (additional dates vary by venue)
Theatre on the Ridge, Chico Theater Co., California Regional Theatre, Birdcage Theatre

It’s opening weekend for four new productions showing at Butte County theaters! Theatre on the Ridge in Paradise is showing Insertion, a new comedy about a young intern at an erotic-fiction publisher who, upon being presented with the opportunity of a lifetime, learns everything she can about sex in a “series of hilarious, harrowing, and heartwarming escapades.” The Birdcage Theatre in Oroville has Little Shop of Horrors, a community theater mainstay that has it all—music, horror, comedy and a giant, talking, carnivorous plant. Chico Theater Co. opens The Savannah Sipping Society, a joyful comedy about four Southern women navigating their mid-life crises together. And at the First Street Theatre, California Regional Theatre is producing Tootsie, the Tony Award-winning musical based on the movie of the same name and centered on the story of an actor who resorts to adopting a new identity as a woman in order to land a job.
