Rally for the climate

Chicoans set first Fridays For Future protest since pandemic

Signs by Chico For Climate Action are being prepped for Friday's rally.

Seeking to regain momentum stalled by the pandemic, students and others concerned by climate change will gather tomorrow morning (March 19) outside Chico City Council Chambers as part of a worldwide Fridays For Future protest.

The rally, set to start at 11 a.m., coincides with more than 400 other strikes across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa “to demand immediate, concrete, and ambitious action from world leaders in response to the ongoing climate crisis.” These climate actions sprung from 2018 protests by Swedish teen Greta Thunberg who was advocating for more urgent action on the climate crisis.

The last student-led climate action in Chico was Dec. 6, 2019, at Chico State.
