Schools receive hefty grant

Butte County schools soon will receive nearly $1 million for counseling services, school supplies and materials, excursions and extracurricular activities thanks to a donation from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. founder Ken Grossman (pictured) and his wife, Katie Gonser.

The North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) announced the $965,000 contribution Tuesday (Jan. 8) and said a little under half of the money, $455,000, will support Paradise, Magalia and Concow public and private schools and preschools. The rest will go to campuses hosting displaced students.

“Ken and Katie have always been committed to promoting and protecting the quality of life in our communities,” said Alexa Benson-Valavanis, NVCF president and CEO. “It’s no surprise during our greatest time of need that they are making an incredible difference.”
