Gridley OKs 350 FEMA units

South Butte County will house around 1,200 evacuees still displaced by the Camp Fire after the Gridley City Council unanimously approved a short-term lease with the federal government for 350 modular homes in the city industrial park.

The lease, ratified at the council meeting Monday night (Jan. 7), runs 12 to 24 months, ending no later than July 1, 2021. The site comprises just over 72 acres acres of city-owned land, to which FEMA will make development improvements. Rent is $1,795 per month per acre—an annual total of approximately $1.6 million.

Modular housing will go to “pre-screened and qualified registrants.”
