Messer Chups with Build A Rocket and Biggs Roller
Fri, June 12, 9:00pm; Doors open 8:00pm
Lost on Main
319 Main St.
If you caught the last Chico performance by Messer Chups (shown here) in 2024, you probably remember the group’s distinctive blend of surf rock instrumentals and the occasional zombie-like shrieks from bassist Svetlana Nagaeva. A feast for both eyes and ears, the band’s mesmerizing live show is accompanied by a video wall featuring clips and imagery inspired by classic B-movie horror, science fiction, and vintage surf culture. Formed in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1998, the band returns to Lost on Main for a night of spooky surf rock. Opening the show are the local punk outfit Build A Rocket and punk-pop country act Biggs Roller. Tickets online, or available without service fees at The DownLo. 21 and over. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

J Boog
Sat, June 13, 8:00pm
The Commons
2412 Park Avenue
An American Samoan reggae singer-songwriter with nearly two decades in the genre, J Boog (shown here) has built a devoted following through music that draws on his Polynesian heritage while celebrating themes of family, community and island culture. His 2011 hit “Let’s Do It Again,” from the album Backyard Boogie, experienced a major resurgence in 2020 after going viral on TikTok, introducing the song to a new generation of listeners. The upcoming performance marks a return to Chico for the reggae artist, who last appeared at the Senator Theatre in 2024. Opening the evening is reggae artist Sammy Johnson, whose music likewise reflects his Polynesian roots. Tickets online may be sold out, but also available locally at Diamond W Western Wear. This is an all-ages show. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

The SilverTones
Sun, June 14, 3:00pm-5:00pm
Paradise Brew Werks
132 Myers St.
Few bands better represent the collaborative spirit of Chico’s music scene than The SilverTones. Together they play 1950s-70s rock, blues and jazz. But, the eclectic seven-piece group is also deeply connected locally, with members regularly performing alongside other Chico musicians. Lead vocalist Susan Bertozzi also fronts the acoustic rock outfit Wild Heartz, while guitarist Tommy Tabasco can be heard on Chico, California, a full-length album from local indie rockers, The Airplanes. The upcoming performance is a return to the brewery after a January appearance. The show is free and open to all ages. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.
