Written by comics afficionado and local artist Steve Ferchaud, the stage play CaptainMan is an original script inspired by golden-age superhero stories. The comic parody follows a pair of crime fighters investigating a mysterious murder in a lavish penthouse, as they clumsily bring the criminal to justice. Inspiration provided by the classic Adam West Batman television series and tongue-in-cheek humor of Mad Magazine. Read more about Ferchaud’s comics history in Holy farcical, CaptainMan! The Funnels & Smokey The Groove

A pair of local bands is bringing dance party vibes to the Big Room. The Funnels’ (shown here) high energy 80s and 90s beats earned them winner of Best of Chico “Best Band” award seven times. In addition to original tunes, they perform covers of classic 80s and 90s hits including artists such as The Pretenders and the Talking Heads. This 30-year-old Chico band has also performed all over the Bay Area. The other Chico favorite performing is 7-piece funk outfit Smokey The Groove, who has been awarded Best Local Music Act in Best of Chico multiple times. Tickets online for this all-ages show. Chico Pride Downtown Festival

Chico’s Stonewall Alliance is once again hosting this Pride event in downtown Chico. Festival kicks off at 11am at the Plaza with vendors, art, music, drag and stage performances, and more. Hosted by drag stars Sir Vix and Vortexx, this is a free, family-friendly event. More celebrations pop up later in the day including Garden Party at The Allies Pub starting at 1pm, and Dance Party at Duffy’s Tavern starting at 8pm. Dallas Darnell–Live Music

Dallas Darnell brings his voice and guitar when performing with several bands throughout the Chico area and also pursuing his solo music career. Darnell also serves as a music instructor at Guitar Center in Chico. He’s a member of Radio Relapse, a local band known for its energetic 1990s rock covers (such as Blink 182). And, he performs with Channel 66, which specializes in classic hits from the 1960s, including songs by The Beatles and The Beach Boys. Jim Gaffigan: Comedy Tour

Emmy-nominated standup comedian and actor Jim Gaffigan is bringing his trademark self-deprecating humor to Redding as part of his Everything is Wonderful! Tour. It’s the latest in a decades-long career of more than 12 highly-rated specials across live shows, Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. Gaffigan has a reputation for delivering deadpan, family-friendly chucks.
