Maybe more parking? But that might cause more problems. Overall, it’s not too bad to me. I guess I’m nonplussed about it, and I don’t go downtown often. I do think [the proposed idea of widening sidewalks] is a good idea. I’m originally from Boston and they did that sort of thing there.

One thing Chico could consider is a vacancy tax on long-empty downtown storefronts. If owners were nudged (or pushed a little financially) to actually rent or activate those spaces, it would help fill in the gaps that make downtown feel kind of dead and make it feel more lived-in and worth walking around.

Lower the rent for the downtown businesses. It would encourage more businesses to open in the area; I don’t think the current situation or prices encourage new growth. They also need to think of ways to entice the whole family to want to come downtown.

I agree about lowering businesses’ rent. And more bookstores too!

Honestly, it needs to be a little cleaner. The city needs to pick one project at a time and stick to it instead of shifting focus. For awhile they were trying to improve the Plaza. It’s just sad to see everything shutting down; I’ve lived here my whole life and it’s hard to see things change. Depending on which streets they’re considering widening sidewalks, I think that could be a good idea. Downtown isn’t too big and people could figure out different routes to drive through the area.
