Water. The compound that sustains us 24 hours a day and we mostly take for granted. And now, monca invites us to think about and view water through artists’ eyes. Simply titled H2O, this is a juried exhibition of more than 50 artists, many of them local. Expect to see relatable images of human (and some animal) interaction showing joy and respect for water, as well as abstract interpretations. The show is up through January 18, open during regular museum hours. Admission is $5, free for members. Museum is closed on Jan. 1. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

The sounds of smooth jazz are even better with a cold beer when musical group Exit Route returns to Ramble West. The local brewery is a 2025 Best of Chico finalist and is described as having the “best stout in Chico.” This jazz ensemble is a regular part of the local music scene, having previously played at Art Etc. in downtown Chico. Kick off 2026 with the first live performance of the year from In the Pines, a five-piece bluegrass band. The world-traveling group released their latest album, Sunbeam Dream, in 2025. A kaleidoscope of sounds with a style that blends blues, funk, and old-school psychedelic rock. The show takes place at the newly-reopened Mulberry Music Station with an expanded stage. It’s also known for its craft beer and pizza from a wood-fired brick oven. This is a free, all-ages event. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Stretch your funny bone as you ring in the new year with stand-up comedy at Carlino’s, located inside Rolling Hills Casino. Oakland native Kirk McHenry brings relatable humor drawn from his inner-city upbringing and his four-year stint as a Marine before launching his comedy career. He has appeared on several TV shows showcasing comedy talent and has served as an opening act for Jamie Foxx at Laffapaloza. Opening the show are comedians Sean Porter and Nathan Hart. Ages 21 and over. Tickets online.

Tricia and Peter Berkow—Jazz at Brunch

If you’ve been in Chico for any length of time and are not familiar with the name Berkow, where have you been? The versatile duo of Peter and Tricia can be heard performing a variety of genres. This Sunday, it’s smooth jazz accompanied by Peter’s Fender bass and Tricia’s keyboard. All ages, no cover. Brunch menu and drinks available for purchase.
