ELF the Musical

Fri Nov. 28–Sun Dec. 21; Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 7:30pm; Sunday at 2:00pm
Chico Theater Company
166 Eaton Rd., Suite F
It’s Santa time! ELF is considered by many a holiday classic, and it’s being staged at Chico’s favorite theater company chosen in Best of Chico 2025. Chico Theater Company is bringing the critically acclaimed tale of heart, family, and Christmas as their musical finale of 2025. The show is based on the 2003 Will Ferrell film that’s become a fan favorite on streaming as well. But, ELF the Musical makes some interesting story and character changes from the original film, such as narration by Santa Claus rather than the late Bob Newhart’s character, Papa Elf. Tickets online and check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Mumblefinger

Sat Nov. 29, 6:00pm-8:00pm; Doors open 5:30pm
The Barn at Meriam Park
1930 Market Place
Singer/songwriter Brian Birkes (aka Mumblefinger) credits early exposure to The Beatles for his life-long love of music. “When Abby Road came out — that’s what got me into music. My brothers got Abby Road for Christmas… it really floored me.” The Red Bluff native has shared the stage with many greats over the years, and has numerous Chico area performances to his credit. The eclectic musician plays a blend of funk, jazz, blues/soul, with a self-proclaimed style like Joe Cocker. Mumblefinger has released many albums independently — with legendary tracks heard on broadcast stations such as House of Blues and NPR. This is a free, all-ages show. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Decades Thanksgiving Show

Sat Nov. 29, 7:30pm; Doors open 6:30pm
Winchester Goose
800 Broadway St.
While the Winchester Goose may be closing soon, the genre and era hopping Chico-based band, Decades, shows no signs of slowing down their lifelong mission of learning “every song ever.” With their ever-expanding catalog of covers from Doris Day to Bruno Mars, this quintet musical group has played thousands of shows across the West Coast, including Lake Tahoe’s Outdoor Arena and AT&T Park in San Francisco. The band’s name is even a nod to the varied ages of its members, all bringing energy to a show that often changes instruments and styles — in a heartbeat. Tickets online, must be 21+ to attend. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Melanie Kendrick Brunch performance

Sun Nov. 30, 11:30am-1:30pm
Mulberry Music Station Brewery
175 E 20th St.
If you’re looking for a break from a stressful Thanksgiving weekend, here’s a relaxing Sunday afternoon option. You may have heard Melanie Kendrick as vocalist in the local, high-energy 32 West Band, but she takes it down a notch when solo. For a more chill brunch-time vibe, she leans toward a jazz/blues/soul/R&B style, including covering some of the classic tunes from female legends. No cover, but tips encouraged. Brunch-style pizzas and mimosas on the menu. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.
