Scout the Wise, Bride and Organelle
Thur July 31, 7:30pm
1078 Gallery
1710 Park Ave.
The CN&R has been keeping tabs on Scout Parker’s (pictured here) developing musical talents as a singer/songwriter for several years. It’s a blend of alternative indie-pop, electronic and R&B, with highly personal lyrics exploring identity. With voice and guitar, New Orleans–based Organelle creates “dark ambient, dream-pop, with neo‑classical drone and dark folk”. Complimenting Organelle’s style is tour mate Bride (not to be confused with the Southern Christian heavy-metal rock band of the same name). Nessa Bridget Wheatley delivers a sound of ethereal, electronic pop. $10 at the door, all ages. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Radioland’s Return to Paradise
Thur July 31-Sun August 10: Thursday, Friday, & Saturday 7:30pm; Sundays 2:00pm
Theatre on the Ridge
3735 Neal Road, Paradise
As the title implies, this is a tribute to the town of Paradise. Written and directed by local theater icon Jerry Miller, the musical is a loving parody of old-time radio variety shows complete with snappy dialog, singing, quizzes, and sound effects all in front of a big stand-up microphone. And as a member of the audience you get to “see” the sight gags performed by the play’s characters in their spot-on period costumes. It’s no coincidence that this revival—first produced in 2019—is staged again during the current celebration of Theatre on the Ridge’s 50th anniversary. Tickets online or at the door, $25. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Kashus Culpepper
Fri August 1, 9:00pm; Doors open 8:00pm
Tackle Box
379 E. Park Ave.
Culpepper is on the “Artist to Watch” list of several music biz influencers such as Billboard, Apple Music, Pandora, GRAMMY.com and others. With a distinctive, gritty growl in his voice, this artist blends country, soul, blues, folk, and Southern rock into what he calls “southern sounds.” This show is presented in coordination with JMax Productions with Presale Tickets online or at Diamond W in downtown Chico. Must be 21+. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

The beloved Farmers Market happens every week in Chico, but you may want to also venture out to these similar events happening this Saturday only, August 2. Tom Tom’s Summer Market is just down the Esplanade and promises international cuisine, artisanal crafts, and live music at this tropical-themed market. The Summer Vendor Fair in Oroville invites everyone to this family-friendly event supporting local vendors of handmade crafts, artistic creations and décor, plus delicious food. The tiny foothill community of Cohasset knows how to put on a festival—The Cohasset Bazaar & Music Fest is their 54th. They’ll have all the provisions of an arts-crafts-food fair at this 10-hour event, plus your $10 entry fee includes a parade, horseshoe tournament and a huge lineup of musical talent including In the Pines, The Stumpjumperz, Whiskey River Band, and more. Lots of activities for kids, free entry under 10 years. The vendors at the Ridge Produce Collective: Farmers Market provide local produce, handmade crafts, plus Paradise’s own Heinke Farms will have a selection of plantables. If you miss this market, they plan to be back Sept. 6. For more info, check individual sites or the CN&R calendar.

This modern string quartet calls California’s north coastal area home, and they’re returning to Chico for another musical visit.
