West By Swan, Lost Objects, and The Pretty Pills

Thur July 24, 8:00pm
Argus Bar + Patio
212 W. Second St.
Local fave West By Swan (pictured here) has been making noise in Chico for more than 20 years. Members Dan Greenfield, Dave Greenfield, Greg Hopkins and Daniel Taylor have received a bunch of recognitions during that time for their indie-rock mashups including winners of CN&R’s CAMMIES awards. They are joined by another local group, The Pretty Pills, whose punk rock is a unique sound of crunchy guitars and raw energy. Guest appearance by Oakland’s Lost Objects, delivering alternative/indie/dream pop all wrapped up in hypnotic, dance-able post-punk energy. Must be 21+. Tickets online or $10 at the door. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

The Sun Followers

Fri July 25, 6:00pm
Park Avenue Pub
2010 Park Ave.
Heading south on Park Avenue, there’s a concentration of friendly pubs serving spirits, craft beers, and live entertainment. Park Avenue Pub is one of the originals. If you’re looking to mellow out this cool (by Chico standards) Friday eve, the Sun Followers will deliver on the outdoor patio. Ben Ruttenburg and Samantha Francis are an acoustic vocal-harmony duo, blending elements of folk, soft rock, jazz, and pop. Performing original material, these long-time Chico musicians also tour elsewhere and this may be your last chance to see them locally this summer. All ages are welcome at this free event.

Dysfuctional Friday Comedy

Fri July 25, 7:00pm-9:00pm
Bidwell Perk
664 E. First Ave.
Your comedy host Jessy Jaymes conjurs up a new, and often topical, theme for this monthly laugh-fest. This time it’s geographical with “Coast-to-Coast” bringing comics from everywhere. From Manhattan, it’s Dr. Anthony Drew; from Reno via NYC, 18 yr-old phenom Luke Metzadakis; from Redding the Outrageous Kylie Does it All; plus, local boy Will Bell. Tickets online or $10 at the door. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Bailey Zimmerman with Drew Baldridge and Dylan Marlowe

Sun July 27, 8:00pm
Rolling Hills Casino
2655 Everett Freeman Way, Corning
If you’ve been yearning for a big, outdoor country-rock concert this summer, here ya go. Bailey Zimmerman (pictured here) still can’t believe he’s a rising star with his numerous country chart-topping hits. But that humility doesn’t get in the way of him performing high-energy, crowd pleasers such as “Fall in Love” and “Rock and a Hard Place” on his “New To Country Tour”. Joining him is Drew Baldridge, mixing country storytelling with upbeat, pop-infused elements. And Southern boy Dylan Marlowe blends traditional country music themes with robust rock edges. All together, with their backup bands, their powerhouse arena concert is what the outdoor Obsidian Spirit Amphitheater was designed for. Must be 18+. Tickets online. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.
