Swedish pop-punk outfit Carolina Liar is touching down at Tackle Box, led by American frontman and guitarist Chad Wolf and backed by a four-piece rock lineup. The band’s 2008 breakout single, “Show Me What I’m Looking For”, recently found new life after going viral on TikTok. The track originally appeared on the album Coming to Terms, which received a re-release in 2025. Expect soaring hooks and the group’s self-described “garage gospel” energy. Opening act TBA. Fri March 6– Sun March 8; Friday 7:00pm; Saturday 1:00pm & 7:00pm; Sunday 1:00pm
Paradise Performing Arts Center
777 Nunneley Rd., Paradise
A larger-than-life tale is headed to the stage as Big Fish swims upstream to The Ridge. Based on the 1998 novel by Daniel Wallace and the 2003 film directed by Tim Burton, the musical follows a journalist trying to separate fact from fiction as his dying father recounts a lifetime of wildly embellished adventures. Presented by students from Chico’s Inspire School of Arts & Sciences, the production features a live orchestra and student-designed sets, bringing the whimsical Southern Gothic story of love and legacy to a live stage. Tickets online and at the door. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Junior Toots and Blü Egyptian

Fri March 6, 8:30pm; Doors open 8:00pm
Lost on Main
319 Main St.
Lean back and let the rhythm take over. Reggae torchbearer Junior Toots delivers a rock-steady tribute to his father, reggae giant Toots Hibbert of Toots and the Maytals. Joining in the celebration is Chico favorite Blü Egyptian, known for blending bluegrass, funk and jam-band. This local collaboration with Junior Toots is a first-time reunion since their El Rey Theatre debut in 2022. They’ll again be in sync performing ska and roots reggae grooves. The night also tips its hat to late Jamaican icon Jimmy Cliff, rounding out an evening steeped in reggae royalty with uplifting rhythms and a whole lot of heart. Tickets online, also available without service fees at The DownLo. Must be 21+. Check the CN&R calendar for more details.

Jack Cimo Classical Guitar Concert

Sat March 7, 7:00pm; Doors open 6:30pm
Museum of Northern California Art
900 Esplanade
Internationally-touring classical guitarist Jack Cimo brings his virtuosic stylings to Chico for an intimate solo performance. Known for his expressive touch and technical precision, Cimo’s eclectic repertoire spans work by legendary composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and William Walton, many of whom were featured on his 2019 solo album. A seasoned performer on the global stage, he regularly appears with symphony orchestras while also embracing the stripped-down artistry of solo touring — something he calls “a lifelong dream” that he continues to realize one concert at a time. Tickets online or at the museum for $20. Drinks available for purchase at the bar. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Black Viiolet

Sun March 8, Doors open 9:00pm
Duffy’s Tavern
337 Main St.
Can the oftentimes boisterous Duffy’s Tavern be transformed into a jazzy blues nightclub with a cool vibe? We’ll find out Sunday night when Black Viiolet slips in. Frontwoman Nicole Laurenne sheds her past life as a Seattle garage punk rocker for the sultry sound of neosoul, trip-hop and smoky noir-pop. Appearing in a slinky retro cocktail dress and her hair in an Amy Winehouse ’do, Laurenne’s seasoned talents on vocals, keyboard and electronics creates a genre-blending experience. And the musicians with horns, drums and bass will complete the Black Viiolet ensemble. For this lounge show expect to hear tracks from their just-released album Dark Blue, while you’re ordering your martini extra-dry. Tickets online or $10 at the door. Must be 21+. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.
