The Addams Family–Musical

Thur Oct. 2–Sat Oct. 18; Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays at 7:30pm
First Street Theater
139 W. First St.
Chico loves the spooky season so let’s get started. Opening on Broadway in 2010, this musical has since entertained audiences in regional theaters. The source material is from Charles Addams’ original New Yorker magazine cartoons from decades ago, so don’t expect the dark, morose vibe of Netflix’s recent Wednesday. Instead, favorite daughter is now a young adult and hiding her love for a “normie”. The quirky family sings their way through challenges of love, acceptance, reconciling differences, and parents letting their kids grow up. Tickets online. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Bonfire’s Bonnie Pipkin in her element.

Bonfire’s Big Night Out…The Sequel!

Fri Oct. 3, 7:30pm
Laxson Auditorium
400 W. First St.
If you’ve been bummed not being able to get a ticket for past performances of Bonfire at a smaller venue, you’re in luck. This is their second annual performance at the spacious Laxson Auditorium. Bonnie Pipkin is the fire in Bonfire and along with co-director Dylan Latimer, they magically coax very human, relatable tales from the storytellers, while keeping with that night’s storytelling theme. Add to that the impromptu participation of a few audience members, and you get an evening of surprises—some joyful, some confessional, all heartfelt. The “open mic” theme of this event invites multiple audience members to share their tales. More details and tickets here. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

The Expendables

Fri Oct. 3, 8:00pm; Doors open 7:00pm
The Commons
2412 Park Ave.
The Expendables’ blend of ska, punk rock, and surf rock is what makes their signature coastal reggae sound. This Santa Cruz four-man crew’s return visit to Chico, after a long absence, is reason to party. What better place to celebrate than The Commons, 2025 Best of Chico readers’ pick for Best Craft Beer Selection. This JMax production is all ages. Tickets online or at Diamond W in downtown Chico. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Strange Pilgrim, Scout the Wise and Elliott OK

Sun Oct. 5, 7:00pm: Doors open 6:00pm
Winchester Goose
800 Broadway St.
Portland’s Strange Pilgrim (shown here) returns to Chico bringing their indie rock / dream pop / psych-rock just after releasing their album Too Bright Planet. Their atmospheric, textured soundscapes blend with the lyrics of lead singer/songwriter Josh Barnhart. Support from Chico’s Scout the Wise will make for a smooth fit. And Elliott OK (aka Elliott Kay) is bassist/guitarist for Strange Pilgrim. Tickets: $10 at the door. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.

Los Straitjackets

Tues Oct. 7, 7:30pm; Doors open 6:30pm
Chico Women’s Club
592 E. 3rd St.
Los Straitjackets not only delivers a unique instrumental sound with their version of classic surf, 60s garage and early rock ‘n’ roll, but their strong stage presence is a bit theatrical, accented by matching attire and lucha libre (Mexican wrestling) masks. Expect to hear cuts from their newest album Somos Los Straitjackets and find your spot on the dance floor. Tickets online and available without service charge at Pullins and Music Connection in downtown Chico. Check the CN&R calendar for more information.
