Not the Same, Amazon Crimes, Grayed Blue, and Cherry Ghoul

Inspired by 90s grunge and 2000s pop punk, the Chico-based rock band Not the Same, will perform with garage punk band Cherry Ghoul. Chico musicians won’t be the only ones at this show. They’ll be joined by Stockton’s indie band Amazon Crimes, and fellow Stockton music trio Grayed Blue for one rocking night of music. Check website for more info.

Rebirth Brass Band

In 1983 the Frazier brothers formed the Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band in New Orleans. With horns and drums they started playing in the streets of the French Quarter and later across the world. This party band has also dabbled in funk and hip-hop to create a sound unique to them, they also have been seen in HBO’s TV series Treme, and lauded by Brother Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers calling them, “Unbelievable. Hard as hell, free as a ray of light, there is not a band on earth that is better. Stunning.” Check website for more info.

Oktoberfest 2024

A beer party with lederhosen, dirndls, chicken dancing, stein-hoisting and more at Chico’s Oktoberfest this year. Sierra Nevada’s event site calls it, “A vibrant celebration of craft beer’s rich heritage and an homage to Bavarian culture!” The MarchFourth Marching Band, expert glassblowing and tons of beer and company can be found here. Inspire School of Arts & Sciences presents The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical

Percy Jackson, son of Greek god Poseidon, sets out on a journey with his friends in a quest to recover Zeus’ missing lightning bolt. They will have to work together to face monsters and gods along the way. Based on the book of the same name, witness performers from 10 to 18-years old as they reimagine Greek mythology with a musical twist. Tickets $19-$32; $17 for Chico State students.

Goodnight, Texas and Madeline Hawthorne

Avi Vinocur and Patrick Dyer Wolf named their folk rock band after the geographic midpoint between the musician’s homes in San Francisco and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. With mandolin, banjo, guitar and vocals, the band has been featured by NME, Rolling Stone, No Depression and more, according to their website. They will be joined by Montana singer/songwriter Madeleine Hawthorne. She’s been obsessed with music since childhood, practicing her skills by performing in multiple backup and band gigs before going solo. Tickets: including service charge are $28.45; or available without service charges at Pullins Cyclery and The Music Connection.
