Palo Alto artist and art teacher Norma Lyon creates whimsical sculptures made with found objects and papier-mâché. According to her exhibit bio, Lyon’s “artistic process begins with her collection of intriguing items—rusty metal, small bones, old books—that inspire her creations.” On display now at monca through Sept. 1. Cost: $5.

Community Appreciation Celebration

The Afro-Brazilian dancing fighters of ASCAB Capoeira collaborate with Afro-Brazilian samba rhythm-makers of the local percussion super-group Wolfthump. Join the session and an evening of music, dance and play at Movement Arts of Chico. Cost: $5-$20

The Oroville State Theater is screening an old-school romantic screwball comedy from 1934. It Happened One Night is directed and co-produed by Frank Carpa and Harry Cohn. Watch as Claudette Colbert, playing a pampered socialite, tries her best to get out of her father’s strict guidance and falls in love with a rogue reporter played by Clark Gable.
