Gold Country Casino & Hotel
4020 Olive Highway, Oroville
“Na.. Ga.. Do.. It” Four syllables that look like nonsense written out, yet are instantly recognizable as one of the iconic presidential impersonations made famous on Saturday Night Live. Dana Carvey will undoubtedly bring out George Bush Sr. and many of his other classic impressions when he hits the Gold Country Casino stage for two shows in one night this Saturday (June 22). Tickets: $69-$99.
Pride Festival
Saturday, June 22, 10am-5pm
Chico City Plaza
Downtown Chico
Presented by Stonewall Alliance Center
This is the Stonewall Alliance Center’s big event of the year, the centerpiece of Pride Month in Chico, with the City Plaza overflowing with a day-long celebration of love, diversity and Chico’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community. In addition to the usual vendor and food booths, the plaza will be buzzing with live performances, DJs, dancing, drag artists, art, crafts and more.
Sam Morrow & Ellis Bullard
Sunday, June 23, 7pm
Winchester Goose
824 Oroville Ave.
The press materials say Sam Morrow’s “sound that exists somewhere outside of genre and geography. .. [It’s] modern-day American roots music: a mix of roadhouse rock & roll, bluesy R&B, and country-fried funky-tonk, driven forward by groove, grease, and guitars.” What this editor hears in the music is “California Soul,” that country-tinged kinda-jammy sound popularized by The Mother Hips. (Hint: When a band’s bio says their sound has no genre, 999 times out of a thousand the genre is, at least in part, “jam band.”) Morrow (pictured above) will be joined Sunday (June 23) at the Winchester Goose by Austin, Texas, honky-tonker, Ellis Bullard. Chico’s Seth Prinz opens.Tickets: $10.
Sumac, White Boy Scream, Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean
Tuesday, June 25, 7pm
Naked Lounge
118 W. Second St.
Duuuuude … This is going to be a crazy show. The mighty Sumac (pictured) headline with their calculated and nearly overwhelming approach to chaos, but there’s all kinds of extreme noise on the rest of the bill. The hectic doom-monsters of Springfield, Mass., Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean, kick things off, followed by White Scream, trained opera singer Micaela Tobin’s experimental-noise/storytelling project. Kick off summer with a proper kick to the sensibilities on Tuesday (June 25) at the Naked Lounge. Tickets: $15.
